A simple 5 minute timer

This is a free 5-minute timer you can use straight from your browser. Open the page and press Start — a large, easy-to-read countdown fills the screen and an alarm sounds the moment the 5 minutes are up. There is nothing to install and no sign-up, so it works the same on your phone, tablet or computer.

How to use it

Press the play button to start the 5-minute countdown; press it again to pause, and use reset to jump back to the beginning. Want a different length? Tap the time to type any minutes and seconds. You can also press "Add timer" to line up several timers — for example 5 minutes of work and 1 minute of rest — and set them to repeat. When you have a setup you like, copy the URL to save it or share it with someone else.

What a 5 minute timer is good for

Five minutes is a versatile little block. It is long enough for a short focused task and short enough that you will not drift: a quick tidy-up, a plank or stretching set, steeping tea, a brainstorming sprint, meditation or box-breathing, a kids' turn-taking timer, a speaking-practice segment, or a "just five minutes" nudge to beat procrastination. Because the countdown is full-screen and the alarm is clear, you can start it and look away until it rings.
